This carte de visite photograph was taken by Bourne and Shepherd in India about 1868 to 1870. Sir Charles Fraser is in the full dress uniform of the 11th Hussars of which he is the Commanding Officer. The backmark of this photograph is displayed to the right.

The detail to the right shows the medals and decorations of Colonel Fraser. On the top right over the crossbelt is the Victoria Cross and to its left is the Companion Badge of the Order of the Bath. Below these to the right is the campaign medal for the Indian Mutiny 1857-1859 with the clasp for Lucknow and to the left the campaign medal for the Abyssinian Campaign of 1868. The collar rank is the rank used with 1868 pattern dress. The rank is for a Colonel which is signified by the gold lace on the top and bottom of the collar with the crown and pip devices. This would have been the rank held by the Commanding Officer of the 11th Hussars.

The detail to the left shows the sleeve lace of this uniform.
