What is the Web for, if not for reading your favorite comic strips? If your town has lousy newspapers (for instance, my town, Wilmington, Delaware, has only the News Journal, part of the despised Gannet (USA Today) chain), the Web may be the only way you can read the good strips.
Here are links to some of my favorite strips. Enjoy!

Sherman's Lagoon by Jim Toomey Sherman's Lagoon describes the adventures of Sherman (a great white shark), his girlfriend Megan, Fillmore (a sea turtle), Hawthorne (a hermit crab), and other denizens of Kapupu lagoon in the Palauan Archipelago. As surreal as you might expect, but loads of fun. And the free screen saver (for Macintosh and Windows) is neat! |

Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson Arlo, Janis, and their son Gene are the actors in a commentary on modern family life. Gene's adolescent dreams and insecurities, and Arlo's middle-aged reactions to them, are a recurrent theme. Like Lynn Johnston (For Better or Worse), Johnson isn't afraid to tackle unusual and uncomfortable subjects, such as teen pregnancy and mortality. |

Foxtrot by Bill Amend Follow the hectic lives of Roger and Andy Fox, with kids Peter, Paige, and Jason! Thrill to the antics of Jason's pet iguana, Quincy! Visit the Web page and play a game of Foxcentration, or download Slugman: The Video Game (really!). |

9 Chickweed Lane by Brooke McEldowney Sometimes surreal, sometimes touching, 9 Chickweed Lane stars 15-year-old Edda Burber, her mother, and grandmother. Lovely artwork! |

Luann by Greg Evans This strip stars Luann (a high school freshman), her older brother Brad, and their parents. Like Arlo and Janis, it frequently deals with the coming-of-age theme so adored by baby boomers. |
