Professional Objectives: I am seeking fulltime employment with the opportunity for advancement in the field of information technology, specifically in the areas of UNIX/Network Security, UNIX Administration and Firewall administration. I am a Certified Checkpoint Firewall Administrator (CCSA) and have over 15 years experience working with a variety of UNIX operating systems and architectures. Most recently my experience has been with administering SUN hardware and the Solaris OS, utilized along with Veritas’s File System, Cluster Server, and Netbackup software application.

Experience:

October 2005 to Present: Currently working fulltime for Mountaire Farms in Millsboro, DE as a UNIX system administrator. Maintaining and supporting Sun-Fire-V250s, V880s, 280Rs and V210 servers in both Delaware and Arkansas. This environment includes a Veritas Cluster Environment for Oracle clustering using two sun V-880 servers. I also utilize Veritas Netbackup software for network backups on an Adic Scalar 100 tape jukebox. These V-880 servers share a Hitachi 9200 Disk Storage Array. Most recently, I have worked on a project to upgrade their disk storage to a Hitachi AMS500 SAN array. The SAN environment utilizes Brocade Fiber Channel Switches and the Hitachi AMS500 disk array. The older Hitachi 9200 disk array will also be moved to the new SAN allowing connectivity to all servers on the SAN. Other recent work includings upgrading the selected servers from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 using the live upgrade feature.

May 2005 to Sept 2005: Worked for Teksystems as a UNIX systems installer for a series of installation contracts they have with Sirsi library systems. The job consists of rack mounting and installing SUN v240 through v880 multi-processor SUN systems at libraries throughout the northeast. Then installing and configuring the OS and setting up the hosts on the network so that Sirsi can connect remotely to these systems. The last part of this contract working with ShopRite Pharmacies throughout Delaware, PA, and NJ. The job consists of rack mounting and installing IBM P series UNIX systems, CISCO switches, LINUX Voice Recorders, and converting/migrating their current production systems over to the new environment. This was a project which consisting of both day installs and night conversion work.


February 2005 to May 2005: Worked as a UNIX/Firewall security engineer at Campbells Soup Headquarters in Camden, NJ. This position involves administering Checkpoint Firewall rulesets. Approving changes to the rules, and creating new rules based on the customer's needs. This position also involved administering AIX UNIX systems, SEOS security application, and shell scripting.

March 2004 to November 2004: Working as a firewall engineer at Citigroup in New Castle, Delaware. This contract involves upgrading the Cyberguard firewalls to the version 5.1.1. It involves building the new Cyberguard replacement systems, then shipping them out all over the world to Citigroups various network sites. I then work with the onsite engineer to test and cutover the new firewall. This project involved an upgrade of over 350 firewalls worldwide. Other duties include a rotation of Duty Manager and on-call support for all Citigroup’s production firewalls, including their Cisco Pix and Checkpoint 4.1/NG firewalls.

July 2003 to December 2003: Working as a UNIX consultant for W.E. Hughes, Incorporated, Smyrna, DE 19977. During this period I was assigned full time at Astrazeneca in Wilmington, DE. This contract is a 6 month assignment migrating SAS UNIX shell utilities and their CDE X-Windows environment from HPUX to SUN Solaris. Duties have included upgrading systems from Solaris 8 to Solaris 9 and installing Solaris x86. I have built and configured a Linux Cluster using Oscar (Linux clustering software) on Redhat 9.0 for the purpose of running some in house Fortran programs. I'm also testing out various low bandwidth network graphical tools to access the current graphical SAS environment; tools such as VNC, Tarantella, and Citrix Metaframe. Other duties include some UNIX admin work and shell scripting.

November 1998 to May 2003: Working as a UNIX consultant for W.E. Hughes, Incorporated, Smyrna, DE 19977. I was assigned full time at Dade Behring in Glasgow, DE. Work includes support for HP Unix systems acting as SYBASE database servers, FAXSR servers, both Netscape SUITESPOT and Apache Web servers, and a demonstration of Real Audio for Training videos. Built and installed three HP UNIX based firewalls using Checkpoint's Firewall-1 firewall software, then upgraded those three firewalls to Checkpoint's Firewall-1 Version 4.1. I recently converted this environment over to Nokia's Firewall appliance running Checkpoint NG. I have experience installing and configuring Nortel's VPN connectivity Switches. I currently manage two production 2500 Series VPN Switches and two 1510 Series Nortel Switches. During my time at this site I also passed the Checkpoint Certified System Administrator Exam (CCSA). This site also utilizes Linux servers for it's mail gateway, DNS servers, SAMBA servers, and some Apache Web servers. My varied personal experiences with Linux are now being utilized to support these efforts in a working business environment. I have experience in installing and configuring both the Mandrake distributions and Redhat distributions of LINUX. I'm currently using a Redhat 8.0 distribution for my desktop workstation and personal web server. Some of my most recent work has been in configuring and managing; the F5 BigIP load balancing appliance for server load balancing; Checkpoint's NG firewall on Nokia using VRRP for failover; and NFR's latest release of their intrusion Detection software.

October 1996 to October 1998: Worked as a UNIX consultant assigned full time at a banking client's site (FirstUSA/BankOne) in Delaware. During this time period I have performed many duties and moved to various positions, as the clients needs changed. The following is a listing of those positions.

- February 1998 to October 1998: Worked as the Security/Firewall consultant in the Security/Firewall group. This involved supporting and maintaining 4 Cyberguard UNIXWare Firewalls, and one Cyberguard NT Firewall. During this time period I also attended and completed a Cyberguard Firewall Administration course.

- November 1997 to February 1998: During this time period I worked as a UNIX/Security consultant on the implementation and development of a Minimum Security Baseline for UNIX systems across the client site. This included over 80+ UNIX systems from different vendors such as SUN, AIX, HP, and NILES. The work required knowledge of security tools such as Tiger, Tripwire, SMAP, sendmail, Axent Enterprise Security Manager, some shell script programming, and a good cross platform understanding of UNIX.

- October 1996 to October 1997: Worked as a UNIX administrator, in the UNIX group performing UNIX system administration duties on SUN Solaris and IBM AIX UNIX systems housing Oracle DATABASES. Created an Intranet WEB site for viewing repetitive system administration tasks. Worked the UNIX help desk resolving UNIX problems across the bank's 80+ UNIX systems. Worked on the migration of an Oracle based email server to Microsoft Exchange, integrating the relaying of mail from the UNIX hosts to the new enterprise mail system.

August 1995 to September 1996: Worked as a UNIX consultant for Info Systems, Inc, Newport, DE. Info Systems assigned me to a full time contract position at MBNA. At this site I was performing database software installation, setup, and maintenance for a large Marketing database. The job also included some UNIX system administration on three large SUN servers. Installed and configured SAS on all three UNIX systems. Installed and setup Windows NT users with an X-windows emulator for accessing the SUN systems. Developed shell scripts to run database processes in the background and automate other database update tasks. While working at Info Systems, I also helped to develop their WWW home page and a personal web page for myself. At another Info Systems client site I installed and configured an RS/6000 UNIX system to send and receive Internet UUCP mail.

1987 to August 1995: US Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity (AMSAA), Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD. Worked in the Simulation Branch, performing and managing analytical studies within and outside the organization. I worked in the area of Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS). The studies involved the Validation of models, DIS simulators and Validation Techniques which were used Army wide. Some high level studies required briefings to Pentagon officials, Program Managers, and conferences. Other duties: Unix system administration, PC Software/Hardware expert, ADP ordering, and TCP/IP networking over LAN and the internet (Mosaic, World Wide Web, etc.). Operating system experience in DOS, MS windows, Unix and X-windows on Sun Workstations(WS), SGI WS, and PCs (LINUX), some work with Mac System 7. Database experience includes INGRES on UNIX and several PC based database packages such as Foxpro and Superbase.
